Avalon (east-southeast) is a neighbourhood of Ottawa, in Ottawa-Gatineau. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 7,444 living in private households. 50.1% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 26.4% across Ottawa-Gatineau as a whole; the largest single group was Black at 20.2%. 48.2% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 1.7% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 34.8% of the population, compared with 21.4% citywide. Median household income before tax was $124,000 in 2020, compared with $98,000 for Ottawa-Gatineau. 20.9% of households rented rather than owned.
