Lowertown (northeast) is a neighbourhood of Ottawa, in Ottawa-Gatineau. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 4,023 living in private households. 41.6% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 26.4% across Ottawa-Gatineau as a whole; the largest single group was Black at 24.1%. 55.2% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 3.3% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 29.8% of the population, compared with 21.4% citywide. Median household income before tax was $64,500 in 2020, compared with $98,000 for Ottawa-Gatineau. 78.5% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 0.59 km², giving a population density of 6,858 people per square kilometre (Ottawa-Gatineau averages about 174).
